Phase 5c

 

We are now revisiting Phase 5c -  practising the alternative ways of writing phonemes. Identifying words that are real or not real when reading.

MONDAY      

Review the sounds learnt so far focusing on Phase 5a. Play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Focus on the alternative spellings for the /ch/ phoneme. ‘ch’ /’tch’

Read the following words together: chip, chin, rich, much,

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

Read the following words together: catch, pitch, stitch, fetch, notch, ditch, kitchen

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain. 

(Remind them that ‘tch’ usually goes in the middle or the end of a word, not at the beginning.)

 

Practise spelling polysyllabic words: stitches, matchmaker, scratching 

 

Ask your child to practice writing and reading the following sentences:

Will you fetch the children?

The rich witch had a patch on her chin.

Can you catch the cheeky cat in the kitchen?

 

 

TUESDAY

Review the sounds learnt so far  focusing on 5a.  Play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

  

Focus on the alternative spellings for the /ch/ phoneme . ‘ch’ /’tch’ /’ ture’

Read the following words together: chip,  much, catch, kitchen, ditch

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

Read the following words together: picture, creature, future, mixture, nature, capture

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

 

Practise spelling polysyllabic words: picture, nature, future.

 

Ask your child to practice writing and reading the following sentences

The witch in the picture is making a messy mixture.

Watch out! The future will be such a big adventure.

Can you catch the cheeky creature from the kitchen?

 

 

WEDNESDAY          

Review  reading the tricky words so far focusing on Phase 5.

Play Train Your Brain Phase 5 and Tricky Word Trucks.

 

 

Practise Spelling tricky words from Phase 5: oh, their, people, Mr., Mrs., looked, called asked, could

Ask your child to practise writing sentences with the tricky words.

Read the story and try to find all the ch words in the story.

Read the following words together: high,  sigh, fight, might,

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

Read the following words together: pie, lie, cried, tried, replied

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

Read the following words together: sky, spy, reply, fry, why

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

Read the following words together: prize, slide, shine, pine, time

Identify and highlight the common sound button (phoneme) all of the words contain.

 

Practise spelling and writing words with alternative igh sound.  Resource – activity table.

 

Ask your child to practice writing and reading the following sentences

We had a delightful time driving by my home.

Can tiny mice fly and sky dive?

Can a tiger be nice and kind?

FRIDAY

Review the sounds learnt so far  focusing on 5a.  Play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Challenge your child to write some words with igh sound.  Can they record a word using each of the different spellings ‘igh’ / ’y’ /’ ie’ / i-e.

 

Practise reading  to identify words with the igh sound. Read the phoneme spotter story.

 

Ask your child to practice writing and reading the following sentences

I might describe my eyes as light, bright and nice.

I got quite a fright when she tried to fight me.

Tonight, a slice of lime pie will be a delight.
