Phase 5c

 

We are now revisiting Phase 5c - practicing the alternative ways of writing phonemes.

MONDAY      

Review the sounds learnt so far and play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Practise the alternative spellings for the ‘f’ phoneme.

Write the grapheme ‘f’ together. Read the following words together and identify the different graphemes; fix, cliff, phone, cough.

 

Read the following sentences

The dolphin flaps his fins. 

The fox huffs and puffs and coughs. 

Get off the phone!

 

Challenge your child to use the f phoneme spotter.

TUESDAY

Review the sounds learnt so far and play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Practise the alternative spellings for the ‘oa’ phoneme .

Write the grapheme ‘oa’ together.  Review the alternative spellings -  ow, oe, oa, ough, o_e, o

Read the following words together and identify the different graphemes; grow, stereo, alone, gloat, toast, toe, snow, though

 

Read the following sentences

The old toast is as hard as stone. 

Will you moan if your phone is thrown out of the window? 

Will a bad throat or a bad toe make you croak like a toad?

Challenge your child to cut out and sort the oa sorting words into the oa sorting grid or play word sort.

WEDNESDAY          

Review the sounds learnt so far and play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Practise the alternative spellings for the phoneme ‘m’.

Write the grapheme ‘m’ together. Read the following words together and identify the different graphemes; mouse, summer, thumb

 

Read the following sentences 

A small crumb is under my thumb. 

Swimming makes my toes go numb. 

This summer, my mum met a mouse.

 

Challenge your child complete the m word sort.

THURSDAY        

Review the sounds learnt so far and play Flashcards: Speed Trial and Flashcards: Time Challenge.

 

Practise the alternative spellings for the ‘oo’ phoneme.

Write the grapheme ‘oo’ together. Read the following words together and identify the different graphemes; spoon, food, uniforn, amusing, tune, do, to, true, statue, new, grew.

 

Ask your child to read the following sentences 

Can you glue a flute onto a snooker cue? 

I am chewing a few huge prunes and I feel foolish. 

I made a statue of a mule using glue, tissue and tubes

 

Challenge your child to use the ‘oo’ phoneme spotter.

FRIDAY

Practise the alternative spellings for the ‘n’ phoneme.

Write the grapheme ‘n’ together. Read the following words together and identify the different graphemes, paying particular attention to the silent letters; next, dinner, knee, gnome

 

Read the following sentences 

I am winning and my knees are knocking.

Knit new pants for the gnome.

Can I design a nice sign?

 

Challenge your child to use the ‘n’ word sort activity.
